Message from President about the Phuket Convention

News No Comments »

The Baba Nyonya convention held at Phuket 20 to 22 nd Nov 2010 was a great success.

PPBNKLS was represented by a 35 member strong contingent and true to Thai hospitality, we were treated to 3 days and 2 nights of cultural extravaganza, lots of feasting, music, dance and a seminar on the Phuket Peranakan scene.

PPBNKLS would like to thank all the participants for your support and enthusiasm.

For the first night , all associations were requested to put up a performance on stage at the Kan Eng Pier at Chalong Bay, and for the second night, to have a representative participate in the Ms Loy Krathong parade. PPBNKLS delivered on both scores splendidly :)

Our thanks to Nyonya Annie Lee for a beautiful solo performance of a well known Malay song. Our thanks too to the brand new choir formed on very short notice, the KL Singers choir comprising Datuk Yeoh Hock Soon, Dr Stephen Hall, Nyonya Nancy Peng, Nyonya Annie Lim, Baba Ivan Chua, Baba Chee Hood Sin, Baba Cedric Tan, Nyonya Angie from Melbourne and myself. We managed to hold our own against the very formidable and highly professional Spore & Malacca choirs, we hope, and we had a blast! Thanks for the cheers and wolf whistles:)

Secondly , our thanks to our lovely Nyonya Jamie Siow who sportingly agreed to take part in the Ms Loy Krathong parade where all the beauties from the 6 associations float the krathongs for good luck and blessings under a brilliant full moon. Jamie was gorgeous decked out in a Thai costume. Thanks for a great job, Jamie. Members of the KL delegation had a great time lighting the paper lanterns and sending them wafting up into the night sky.

My thanks also go to our Hon Secretary Baba Cedric Tan for all the hard work involved coordinating the participant details, cheques, attendance lists, flight details, etc. It is a lot of work and thanks for a great job done Cedric plus taking care we didnt get lost or left behind at the various venues.

The next Baba Convention will be held in Penang next year.
